In this article, you will find the steps to fix an annoying problem on iOS devices where some users have reported about being unable to Delete Apps on their iPhone or iPad.
Unable to Delete Apps on iPhone
The problem of users being unable to delete Apps on iPhone or iPad can occur on any iPhone and is fairly common on 3D-Touch enabled devices.
In a typical problem of this kind, the “X” button which allows Deleting of the Apps does not appear at all, when users tap and hold on the App. In certain other cases, users were dealing with duplicate app icons, one of which could be deleted as usual while the second one could not be deleted.
Depending on your case, you should be able to fix this problem using any of the following methods.
Cannot Delete Apps on iPhone 6s and iPhone 7
As mentioned above, being unable to delete apps is a fairly common problem, reported by users of 3D-Touch enabled models of iPhone 6s and iPhone 7.
On these models of iPhone, pressing and holding on the App activates the 3D Touch Menu, instead of bringing up the “X” button next to the App.
The solution on such devices is to gently or lightly Touch and Hold on the App icon for about 2 to 3 seconds. The “X” icon will then appear, allowing you to delete the App.
Once you are done with deleting the App, press on the Home button to return back to the normal Home screen.
Restart Your iPhone
Follow the steps below in case the “X” icon is not appearing for all the apps or a particular App that you want to delete from your iPhone.
1. Press and Hold the Power (Sleep/Wake) button until you see Slide to Power OFF option on the screen of your iPhone.
2. Slide the Power icon to the right and wait for your iPhone to completely power OFF.
3. Next, wait for about 30 seconds and then Turn ON your iPhone by Pressing and Holding the Power (Sleep/Wake) button.
Once your iPhone starts, the App that you were trying to delete should be gone.
In case above two methods are not helping, it is quite possible that you may have accidentally or intentionally enabled restrictions on your device, preventing anyone from deleting Apps on your iPhone.
You may have done this at some point to prevent your kids from accidentally deleting Apps or to prevent anyone from making In-App purchases or making purchases on the App Store.
Now the only way to Allow Deletion of Apps on your device is to Disable Restrictions on your iPhone, after which you will be able to Delete Apps on your iPhone.
1. From the Home Screen of your iPhone, tap on Settings.
2. Next, tap on General.
3. On the next screen, tap on Restrictions.
4. Next, you will be prompted to Enter your Restrictions Passcode.
Note: Your Restrictions Passcode might be different from your Lock Screen Passcode.
5. On the next screen, enable the option for Deleting Apps on your iPhone by moving the Toggle to ON (green) position.
Once you have enabled the Option to Delete apps on your iPhone, you will be able to Delete Apps on your iPhone without any problem.
Unfortunately, you won’t be able to use this method in case you have forgotten your Restrictions Passcode. The only solution in such a case would be to Reset your iPhone to its Factory Default Settings using iTunes.
Some Apps Cannot Be Deleted
In case you were not aware, native iPhone Apps and Apps that are directly built into the iOS operating system by Apple cannot be deleted.
Even if you Press and Hold on the screen of your iPhone, the “X” button which allows you to Delete Apps will not appear next to the Native iPhone apps like Notes, Messages, Settings, Safari, Camera, Photos, App Store, Wallet and Find My iPhone.
