This can be easily achieved by using the built-in settings that iPhone provides to reduce Cellular Data Usage by Apps and also by using the option to totally disable Cellular data for any selected App as available on your device.
Stop YouTube from Using Mobile Data on iPhone
If you are on a limited data plan, you can find below the steps to totally switch OFF cellular data for YouTube and also the steps to prevent YouTube from using excessive cellular or mobile data on your iPhone.
1. Prevent YouTube from Using Mobile Data on iPhone
You can totally cut off Mobile Data Access to YouTube, which totally rules out the possibility of YouTube using Cellular Data on your iPhone.
1. Open Settings > tao on the Cellular tab.
2. On the next screen, move the toggle next to YouTube to OFF position.
Once Mobile Data access is disabled for YouTube, it will be restricted to Wi-Fi Network only and won’t be able to use your expensive mobile data.
2. Prevent YouTube from Using Mobile Data for Background Activities
You can reduce the amount of Mobile Data being used by YouTube on your device by preventing YouTube from using Cellular Data for background activities.
1. Open Settings > scroll down and tap on YouTube.
2. On the next screen, move the toggle next to Background App Refresh to OFF position.
This will prevent YouTube from using your expensive Mobile Data for any of its background activities
3. Change Video Quality Preferences for Mobile Network
Since, Mobile Data is expensive in most western countries, YouTube provides the option to set Lower Picture Quality while using mobile network.
1. Open the YouTube App on your iPhone.
2. Once you are on YouTube, tap on the Profile Icon (top-right) and select Settings on the next screen.
3. From the Settings screen, go to Video Quality Preferences > On Mobile Networks > on the next screen, select either Auto or Data Saver option.
Note: Select Data Saver option if you are listening to a long YouTube videos or playing YouTube in PIP Mode.
4. Lower Video Quality While Watching
You can also lower the video quality of YouTube video while you are watching the videos.
1. Open the YouTube video that you want to watch.
2. Click on the cog-wheel shaped Settings icon > click on Quality and select the available lower value.
Note: Select any lower non HD setting and see if you are able to watch the video without buffering.
