How to Reset Microsoft Account Password

Local Account Password in Windows 10 can be easily reset using Settings, Control Panel, Password Reset Disk or by Answering security questions.

In case of Microsoft User Accounts, Windows 10 provides the option to Reset Password right from the login screen and also by going to Microsoft’s Password Reset webpage.

Steps to Reset Microsoft Account Password

All that is required to Reset Microsoft Password from the login screen is to make sure that the computer is connected to internet and follow the onscreen instructions.

Go to Login Screen > select your Microsoft User Account and click on I Forgot My Password option.

On the next screen, enter the Email Address linked to your Microsoft Account, enter Captcha Characters and click on the Next button.

Recover Your Microsoft Account Screen

On the next screen, select Email Address or Phone Number that Microsoft can use to send you the security code to verify your identity.

Select Email Address to Get Security Code

Once you make the selection, Microsoft will send a one-time use Security Code to your selected method. Enter the Security Code on the next screen and press the Enter key.

Enter Security Code to Verify Your Identity

On the next screen, enter the New Password for your Microsoft Account and click on Next.

Create New Microsoft User Account Password

While this Password recovery process works well most of the times, it can sometimes run into problems.

In such a case, you can head straight to Microsoft’s Password Reset site and follow the instructions to recover your forgotten Microsoft Account Password.

Recover PIN from Login Screen in Windows 10

A similar option to Recover PIN from Login Screen is available, if you had opted for the option to use a 4-digit PIN to login to Microsoft User Account, instead of using your Microsoft Account Password.

All that is required in this case is to select I Forgot My PIN option at the login screen > enter the Password for your Microsoft User Account and follow the instructions to verify your identity.

Once your identity is verified, you will see the option to Enter New PIN and Login to your Microsoft Account.
