By: Salman Patwegar

Introduced by Apple in iOS 7, Automatic App Updates are designed to download software updates automatically on your iPhone, whenever updates are made available by the app developers. In this article, we will be taking a look at How to Enable or Disable Automatic Updates on iPhone and also at the Advantages and disadvantages of Automatic App Updates.

Advantages of Automatic App Updates

In general Automatic App Updates are helpful, especially for those users who tend to forget to update apps and also for those users who do not want to spend their time on manually updating apps.

One of the biggest advantage of Enabling Automatic App Updates is that the apps on your iPhone will always be up to date, this can really make a difference in case a security related update is released.

Disadvantages of Automatic App Updates

One disadvantage of Automatic app Updates is that you do not have any control over app updates on your iPhone. Updates will be taking place as and when they are available and without your permission which is not liked by some users.

Users who do not like Automatic Updates usually like to check the new features and changes included in an app update before deciding to update the app.

Another reason as to why many users don’t want to Enable Automatic Updates is due to fear of App updates happening over a Cellular connection, eating up expensive mobile data.

However, as shown below, there is a way to prevent Automatic app updates happening over a Cellular Connection and making sure that your device downloads Automatic App updates only over a WiFi connection.
