How to Enable Low Data Mode on iPhone

If you are worried about running out of data on your limited mobile phone plan, you can Enable Low Data mode on iPhone to make your data last longer.

When Low Data Mode is enabled on iPhone, it helps reduce data usage on your iPhone by preventing background communication activities like Background App Refresh from happening on your iPhone.

Also, Low Data Mode makes the Apps on your iPhone to postpone all non-urgent sync activities, until the iPhone is connected to WiFi Network or to another cellular network with no data limits.

Since, you never had any control over background App activities to begin with, you may not notice much difference while using iPhone in Low Data Mode.

So, let us go ahead and take a look at the steps to Enable Low Data Mode on iPhone.

1. Enable Low Data Mode On iPhone for Cellular Data

Follow the steps below to enable Low Data Mode on iPhone for your expensive cellular data network.

1. Open Settings on your iPhone and tap on Cellular.

2. On the Cellular screen, tap on Cellular Data options.

3. On the next screen, move the toggle next to Low Data Mode to ON position.

This will automatically make Apps on your iPhone to reduce cellular data usage.

2. Enable Low Data Mode on iPhone for WiFi Networks

Low Data Mode feature on iPhone can also be used to reduce data usage on specific WiFi networks.

1. Open Settings on your iPhone and tap on WiFi.

2. On WiFi screen, tap on the i Icon (Details), located next to the WiFi Network Name.

3. On the next screen, move the toggle next to Low Data Mode to ON position.

3. Enable Low Data Mode For Specific Apps

If you do not want to enable Low Data Mode at a global level, you can enable Low Data Mode for specific Apps on your iPhone.

For example, Apps like FaceBook, Instagram, WhatsApp and others provide the option to enable Low Data Mode.

1. Open WhatsApp on your iPhone and tap on the Settings tab located in the bottom menu.

2. On WhatsApp Settings screen, tap on Data and Storage Usage option.

3. On the next screen, toggle ON the option for Low Data Usage located under ‘Call Settings’ section.

4. Disable Background App Refresh

Another way to reduce Data Usage on iPhone is to disable Background App Refresh for Social Media and other data hungry Apps on your iPhone.

1. Go to Settings > General > Background App Refresh.

2. On the next screen, you can disable Background App Refresh for Social Media and other Apps by moving the toggle to OFF position.

This will prevent the selected Apps from using your expensive cellular data to refresh their data.
