If your iPhone keeps disconnecting from Wi-Fi, you will have a hard time browsing, texting, making calls and using apps on your device
This problem can occur due to a variety of reasons, ranging from weak network strength, Wi-Fi Assist feature being enabled on iPhone, glitch in modem/router and other reasons.
iPhone Disconnecting from Wi-Fi
In most cases, the problem of iPhone disconnecting from Wi-Fi can be fixed by using the following troubleshooting steps.
1. Restart iPhone
Restart your device to rule out the possibility of the problem being caused due to a stuck program or process.
1. Go to Settings > General > scroll down and tap on Shut Down.
2. On the next screen, use the Slider to Power OFF iPhone.
3. Wait for 30 seconds and press the Power button to Restart iPhone.
2. Enable/Disable Airplane Mode
Enabling and Disabling Airplane mode might in fixing the problem.
1. Open Settings > Enable Airplane Mode by moving the toggle to ON position.
2. Wait for 30 seconds > disable Airplane Mode by moving the toggle to OFF position.
3. Install Updates
Sometimes, the problem is due to updates waiting to be installed on your device.
1. Go to Settings > General > Software Update.
2. On the next screen, use the Slider to Power OFF iPhone.
3. On the next screen, allow iPhone to check for updates and Install Updates (if available).
4. Enable Auto-Join
Setting iPhone to automatically join Wi-Fi network can help your device in maintaining its Wi-Fi network.
1. Open Settings > tap on Wi-Fi > On the next screen, tap on the “i” icon located next to the Network Name.
2. On the next screen, move the toggle next to Auto-Join to ON position.
5. Power Flush Modem/Router
As mentioned above, in many cases the problem of iPhone disconnecting from Wi-Fi is due to a glitch in the modem and this can be fixed by switching OFF Modem/Router and turning it back ON again.
1. Switch OFF the Power Supply to Modem/Router by disconnecting it from the wall socket.
2. Wait for 60 seconds and switch ON the Power Supply to Modem/Router.
6. Forget Wi-Fi Network and Rejoin
Note down your Wi-Fi Network Password and follow the steps below to Forget WiFi Network and rejoin the Network.
1. Go to Settings > tap on Wi-Fi > On the next screen, tap on the “i” icon located next to your Wi-Fi Network.
2. On the next screen, tap on Forget This Network option.
On the confirmation pop-up, tap on Forget to confirm. After 60 seconds, rejoin Wi-Fi Network by entering the Password for your Wi-Fi Network.
7. Reset Network Settings
Note down the Password for your Wi-Fi Network and follow the steps below to Reset Network Settings on your iPhone.
1. Go to Settings > General > Transfer or Reset iPhone > Reset.
2. On the pop-up, select Reset Network Settings option.
3. Enter your Lock Screen Password when prompted.
4. On the confirmation pop-up, select the Reset option to confirm and patiently wait for the Reset process to be completed.
Once the Reset Process is completed, you will find your device restarting and prompting you to rejoin the Wi-Fi Network by entering your Wi-Fi Network Password.
8. Turn OFF Wi-Fi Assist
The Wi-Fi connectivity problem on your iPhone could be due to the Wi-Fi Assist feature trying to shift your device from Wi-Fi to cellular network.
1. Open Settings > tap on Cellular.
2. On the next screen, disable Wi-Fi Assist by moving the toggle to OFF position.
8. Disable VPN
If you are using VPN, disable the VPN service on your iPhone and see if you can connect to the internet.
1. Go to Settings > General > VPN & Device Management.
2. On the next screen, move the toggle next to Status to OFF position.
9. Switch to Google DNS
Switching to Google DNS can help, if the problem is due to the DNS server of your Internet Service Provider being busy or going through problems.
