While the default setting on iPhone is to launch new Safari tabs when you open links, it is possible to setup your device to open new Safari tabs in background.
This way, you can make the Safari browser on your iPhone behave like Google Chrome, which has a default tendency to opens new browsing tabs in background.
The advantage of making Safari browser to open New Tabs in background is that it prevents your device from being filled up or cluttered with browsing tabs and it also allows you to remain on the same browsing tab.
Open New Safari Tabs in Background on iPhone
You can follow the steps below to setup the Safari browser on your iPhone to open new tabs in background (Similar to Google Chrome).
1. Open Settings > scroll down and tap on Safari.
2. On the Safari screen, scroll down and tap on Open Links option.
3. On the next screen, select In background option and tap on < Safari to save the change that you just made.
Now, when you open links while using the default Safari browser on iPhone, you will always find the links opening in the same browsing tab, unlike its default tendency of launching new browser tabs.
At any time, you can go back to the default setting and make the Safari browser on your iPhone to always open links in New browsing tabs by going to Settings and selecting the option to open Links in New Tabs.
Go to Settings > Safari > Open Links > On the next screen, select In New Tab option and make sure that you go back to the previos screen by tapping on < Safari to save the changes made.
After this, you should find the Safari browser on your iPhone opening links and websites in New Tabs, instead of opening them in the same browsing tab.
