What is the Red Number on App Icons?
The Red Numbers that appear on App icons whenever a notification is received for the Apps are known as Badge App Icons in iOS. In general, Badge App Icons indicate the number of unread or unopened notifications.
Other times for app icons like the App Store, the Red Number indicates the number of apps that you need to update.
While Badge App Icons with attention grabbing red numbers are quite useful in attracting the attention of users to Unread Notifications/Messages, some users do not like the simple look of App Icons being marred by the appearance of Red Numbers.
Whatever maybe the reason, it is really easy to remove Red Numbers from App icons on iPhone. Unfortunately, there is no option in iOS to remove Badge App Icons for all apps, you can only remove them on an app by app basis.
Remove Red Number From App Icons on iPhone
Follow the steps to remove red number from App Icons on your iPhone or iPad.
1. Open Settings on your iPhone or iPad.
2. On the Settings screen, tap on Notifications
3. On the Notifications screen, tap on the app for which you want to remove Red Number or the Notification badge. In this case we are tapping on the News App (See image below).
4. On the next screen, toggle off the option for Badge App Icon (See image below)
That will be it, you will no longer see those Red Numbers appearing at the top right corner of App icons on your iPhone.
As mentioned above, there is no global option in iOS to remove Badge App Icons for all Apps. Hence, you will have to repeat the above steps for all the Apps from which you want to remove Red Numbers.
