How to Remove Red Numbers From App Icons on iPhone

By: Staff Writer | Updated: March 19, 2026

If you are like most users, you might be intrigued and even bothered by the appearance of Red colored numbers next to App Icons on your iPhone and you might be looking for a way to remove Red Numbers from App Icons.

The Red Numbers that you are seeing next to App icons on iPhone are known as Badges and the purpose of these Badges is to highlight and bring to your attention the number of unread messages and unopened notifications on your device.

While these attention grabbing Red Numbers are useful in highlighting unread messages and notifications, there are users who do not want the clean look of App Icons on their iPhone being marred by appearance of these Red Numbers.

Hence, iPhone provides the option to disable Badge Notifications from Apps, which prevents Red Numbers from appearing next to the Apps.

As mentioned above, the reason for Red Numbers appearing next to the App Icons is due to the option to show Badge Notifications being enabled on your device.

Hence, all that is required to remove Red Numbers from the App Icons is to disable Badge Notifications on your iPhone.

1. Open Settings > scroll down and tap on Notifications.

2. On the Notifications screen, select the App which is displaying Red Numbers.

3. On the next screen, disable Badge Notifications for this particular app on your iPhone by moving the slider next to Badges to OFF position.

After this, you should no longer see Red Numbers appearing next to the Messages App on your iPhone.

Unfortunately, Apple does not provide a global option to remove Red Numbers from all the Apps Icons on iPhone. Hence, you will have to repeat the above steps for other Apps that are showing bright colored Red Numbers next to them.
