How to Transfer WhatsApp from Android to iPhone

If your Phone Number has not changed or you have already changed the phone number, the process of transferring WhatsApp from Android to iPhone involves the following steps.

  1. Backup WhatsApp to Google Drive on Android Phone
  2. Transfer WhatsApp Backup from Google Drive to iCloud
  3. Delete WhatsApp on Android Phone
  4. Restore WhatsApp on iPhone Using the Backup File

In case you are wondering, these 4 steps are required because WhatsApp can only backup to Google Drive on Android devices and Restore only from iCloud on Apple devices.

1. Backup WhatsApp to Google Drive on Android Phone

The first step is to make a Backup of your WhatsApp Account on Android Phone to Google Drive.

1. Open WhatsApp on your Android Phone > tap on 3-dots menu icon and select Settings in the drop-down menu.

2. From the Settings screen, navigate to Chats > Chat backup and select Back up to Google Drive option.

3. On the pop-up, select Only When I tap on “Back up” option.

4. On the next pop-up, select your Gmail Account. If it is not listed, select “Add Account” option and follow the instructions to add your Gmail Account.

5. If prompted, tap on Allow to provide WhatsApp with access to your Google Drive Account.

6. Next, scroll up on the Chat Backup screen and tap on the Back Up button.

7. Patiently wait for WhatsApp to prepare the Backup File and upload the Backup File to your Google Drive Account.

Note: Select Include Videos option, only if you have enough storage space in your Google Drive account.

2. Download WhatsApp Backup from Google Drive to Computer

The next step is to download the WhatsApp Backup from Google Drive to your computer.

1. Using a PC or Mac, go to Google Drive.

2. Login to Google Drive by entering your Gmail Address and Password.

3. Once you are logged-in, select the WhatsApp Backup File that you made to Google Drive > click on 3-dots Icon and select the Download option.

4. On the next screen, select the Download Location on your computer and wait for the download process to complete.

3. Upload WhatsApp Backup File to iCloud Drive

The third step in this process is to upload the WhatsApp Backup File to iCloud Drive.

1. Using your computer, go to icloud.com > enter your Apple ID and Password to login to your iCloud Account.

2. Once you are logged-in, click on Apps Icon and select and click on Drive Icon.

3. Once you are in iCloud Drive, click on the Upload Icon located in top-menu bar.

4. On the next screen, select the WhatsApp Backup File located on your computer and upload the File to iCloud Drive.

Wait for the Backup File to be uploaded to iCloud Drive and Logout from iCloud Drive.

4. Transfer WhatsApp Messages & Photos to iPhone

The final step is to transfer WhatsApp Messages and photos from iCloud to your iPhone.

1. Open the App Store on your iPhone.

2. Search for WhatsApp and download WhatsApp Messenger on your iPhone.

3. Once the download is completed, tap on Open and follow the instructions to Install WhatsApp on your iPhone.

4. When prompted, enter the same Phone Number that you were using on your Android phone.

5. Follow the on-screen instructions to verify your Phone Number.

6. Once your Phone Number is verified, you will be prompted to Restore Chat History from iCloud.
