Android OS makes it really easy to transfer data from your old Phone to your new Android Phone with its helpful Tap & Go Feature, which works on phones using Android 5.0 and up. In this article we are showing you How to Use Tap & Go to transfer Data between your old and new Android phones.
Requirements to Use Tap & Go
Tap & Go was first introduced in the Android 5.0 Lollipop update. You can make use of this useful feature to transfer data from your old phone to a new phone in case your devices meet the following requirements.
- NFC needs to be enabled on both devices
- Both devices need to be unlocked and powered on
Once you have fulfilled these 2 requirements, you are all set to use Tap & Go to transfer data between your old and new phone.
How to Use Tap & Go
Follow the steps below to transfer data from your existing or old phone to your shiny new Android Phone.
1. Set up Phone, until you reach the Tap & Go screen
Start setting up your New Android Phone till you reach the Tap & Go Screen. In case you need help, you can find the instructions to setup an Android Phone via this link: How to Setup Your New Samsung Galaxy Phone.
Note: You cannot get back to Tap & Go Screen in case you miss it while trying to setup your Phone. The only way to get to Tap & Go Screen in case you miss it or you are not able to find Tap & Go screen on your phone is to factory reset your Android phone and re-start the setup process till you reach the Tap & Go Screen.
2. Once on Tap & Go Screen
Once you have reached the Tap & Go Screen follow steps 2.1 to 2.5 below to transfer data from old phone to your new Android Phone.
2.1. Place Phones Back to Back
After making sure that NFC is enabled on the old phone and that the phone is unlocked, place both phones back to back against each other.
Note: Make sure that the back of both phones touch each other, until you hear a sound.
2.2. On old phone, Confirm transfer of Data
Next you will be prompted to confirm transfer of data on your old phone. Tap on OK on your old phone to start the transfer process.
2.3. Unlock old Device once again
Your old device will automatically lock itself again and you will be prompted to unlock the device. If your device does not have a lock, then you will not be prompted to unlock your device again.
2.4. Sign into your Google account on your new phone
Now, on your new phone, you will be prompted to sign into your Google Account to confirm that you do have authority to transfer data.
2.5. Agree to Google Terms and Conditions
After signing into your Google Account, you will be prompted to Agree to the Terms & Conditions.
3. Complete set up process
Depending on your new phone, you may be asked to setup some more new features such as Google Now.
Once you have finished setting up everything you will be taken to the home screen of your device. However, you will not be able to use some apps yet, as your device is still transferring data from your old phone.
Some apps will appear grayed out and you will not be able to open them, they will only regain their color once the transfer process is completed.
