How to Install Apps From Unknown Sources on Android

By: Staff Writer | May 28, 2025

The default setting on most stock Android phones is to allow installation of apps from Google Play Store and issue a pop-up warning message, whenever users try to install apps from other or unknown sources.

The purpose of this setting is to ensure the safety of your device and keep your data secure by preventing unknown apps from being installed on your device.

In general, this setting suites most users most of the times as Google Play Store has a huge range of Apps that can fulfill a variety of user needs and requirements.

Install Apps From Unknown Sources

While Google Play Store has a huge collection of apps, you may still find the need to install apps or APK Files from other legitimate third-party sources, which are also known to be reliable.

For example, the APK File that allows you to use WhatsApp on Android tablet is not available on the Play Store and can only be downloaded from WhatsApp’s download site.

1. Enable Installation of Apps from Unknown Sources

On newer Android phones running Android Oreo or later versions, you can follow the steps below to allow installation of Apps from unknown sources.
