How to Show and Hide the Dock on Mac

By: Staff Writer | January 29, 2025

While the default position of the Dock on a MacBook is to be always available at the bottom of the screen, it is also possible to Hide the Dock on your Mac.

In general, the most common reason for not showing or hiding the Dock on Mac is to make the screen distraction free or gain additional space for the document, spreadsheet or program that you are trying to work on.

The easiest way to Hide the Dock on your Mac, while it is not being used is to enable “Automatically Hide/Show the Dock” option by going to Dock Preferences screen on your computer.

Once the option to Automatically Hide/Show the Dock is enabled on Mac, it will automatically Hide the Dock when it is not being used and show the Dock, whenever the mouse cursor is positioned over the bottom part of the screen.
