Apple’s iOS 9.3 update brings useful new features to iPhone and iPad. Notable ones include Night Shift Mode, Touch ID Secure Notes, Personalized News app, Health app, Nearby for CarPlay, Educational apps and multi-user support for iPads.
Night Shift Mode
The Night Shift Mode uses your geolocation data and local clock time to determine the time when the sun sets in your area.
Using this information your iOS device will gradually start reducing the amount of bright blue light emitted from its screen. In the morning, the screen display colors will shift back to their normal state.
The overall idea behind Night Shift Mode is to prevent your iPhone or iPad from interfering with your sleep quality by shutting off its bright blue light display during night time. This is based on studies that exposure to certain wavelengths of blue light can disrupt your circadian rhythm by tricking your body into thinking it is still daylight outside.
Touch ID Protection For Notes
iOS 9.3 brings Password and Touch ID protection to Notes. This will allow you to protect Notes containing personal and sensitive information with a password or Apple’s fingerprint identity sensor (Touch ID)
With this addition you have less to worry in case you lend your iPhone or iPad to someone for an emergency call or happen to leave your iPhone unattended.
Those having a CarPlay-compatible car will be able to use the Nearby feature to quickly locate gas stations, parking, restaurants, coffee shops and other points of interest.
In addition, the “For You” option in Apple Music for CarPlay will now display content (Songs, Artists and Albums) based on your preferences.
More Personalized News App
You will now find the “For You” section on your iPhone offering Articles, News, trending topics and suggestions based on your interests.
With iOS 9.3 update, you will be able to view News app in landscape mode and play videos from right within the news feed.
Enhanced Health App
The Health app is now more integrated with Apple Watch and provides more health data, making it easier to keep track of your health and day-to-day fitness goals.
In addition, the health app now features a slider menu that suggests third party health apps while you are on workouts, weights or sleep data screens.
More 3D Touch Shortcuts
iOS 9.3 update has added new 3D Touch shortcuts for Weather, Settings, Compass, Health, iTunes and App Store.
New Class Room Apps
iOS 9.3 brings serious upgrades to the iPad, making it feature rich and user friendly for both students and educators. The new upgrades include a Classroom app for teachers, Apple School Manager app and Shared iPads for students.
Shared iPads: The new shared iPads protocol in iOS 9.3 allows students to login to any iPad that the school owns. When students log into any shared school iPad all their personal settings, books, documents and apps will appear on that iPad.
The Classroom app: Apple’s new Classroom app allows teachers to view the screen of any iPad in their class room and monitor student activities. Teachers will also be able to lock iPad screens to specific apps, in order to keep the class focused on specific tasks.
As and when required, teachers will be able to launch apps, open websites and e-book pages on every iPad in the classroom.
Apple School Manager: This app for OS X allows school administrators to Manage Apple IDs for teachers, students, and other staff.
Admin staff will be able to buy apps and books at discount rates and distribute them.
Siri Speaks More Languages
With iOS 9.3, Siri will be speaking your local language in Malaysia (Malay), Finland (Finnish), and Israel (Hebrew).
