By: Sam Patwegar | Updated: May 13, 2026

If you are looking for a way to copy files from one user account to another, it is likely that you are dealing with the situation of a Corrupted User Profile and want to transfer Files from the Corrupted User Account to Another or New User Account.

In addition to this, copying files/folder from one user account to another may is also required in a collaborative work environment; where you are required to share files with others without giving them the keys to your entire User Account.

Copy Files from One User Account to Another

In order to copy files from one User Account to another, you need to be logged-in to an Admin Account, which provides you with Admin rights and access to Files located in all the User Accounts located on the computer.

After you are logged-in to an Admin Account, you can make use of File Explorer to Navigate to C:\Users\ path (where all user accounts are located) and copy files from one User Account to another.

In this example, we are going to copy all the User Account Folders (Desktop, Downloads & others) located in ME2 User Account to a New Folder located on the Desktop of ME1 User Account.

Once all User Account Folders from ME2 User are available in a dedicated Folder on the Desktop of ME1 User Account, the Files located in these Folders can be transferred to any location on ME1 User Account.

1. Login to your Admin Account and open the File Explorer on your computer.

2. On the “File Explorer” screen, scroll down and click on Local Disk (C:) or OS (C:) in the left-pane and open the Users Folder by double-clicking on it.

Open Users Folder on Windows Computer

3. In the Users Folder, open the particular User Folder in which the Files that you want to transfer are located. In this case, we are opening ME2 User Folder.

4. If you see “You don’t have permission to access this folder” pop-up, click on Continue and wait for permission to be granted.

5. Once you are in the User Folder, select all the Files/Folders that you want to copy > right-click on the selected Files/Folders and select the Copy option in the menu that appears.

Copy Files From User Folder

Important: Do not copy the entire User Folder, as you will end up copying corrupted hidden system files (Ntuser.dat, Ntuser.dat.log, Ntuser.ini).

6. After copying the Files, open the particular User Folder (ME1 in this case) to which you want to  transfer the copied User Folders.

7. Once you are in the User Folder, open the Desktop Folder by double-clicking on it.

Open Desktop Folder in User Folder

8. In the Desktop Folder, right-click anywhere > go to New > Folder and give a proper name to this newly created Folder.

Create New Folder in Desktop User Folder

9. Open the New Folder > right-click in any empty space and click on Paste option.

Paste Files Into Another User Account Folder

Now, all the files that you had copied from the first User Account (ME2) will be available in a New folder on another User Account (ME1) and they can be easily transferred to any location within this User Account.
