How to Use Phone Without SIM Card (Android & iPhone)

If you have an Android phone or iPhone without SIM Card or its own phone number, it can still be used to make calls, send text messages, browse the web and perform other functions.

This can be achieved by activating your mobile device without SIM card and installing apps that can allow you to make calls, send text messages and perform other tasks without using Wi-Fi network.

Use Android & iPhone Without SIM Card

The first step that is required to use an iPhone or Android phone without SIM card is to activate your device. Luckily, this is not a problem in the current models of mobile devices, which can be setup and activated without SIM Card.

Once your phone is activated without SIM Card, it can be connected to Wi-Fi network and used pretty much like a regular iPhone or Android phone with SIM Card installed on it.

1. Activate Your Phone Without SIM Card

Except for minor variations, the steps to setup and activate both iPhone and Android phone without SIM Card are practically the same.

1. Press the Power Button to start your phone.

2. Dismiss the “Insert SIM Card” prompt, as it appears on the screen of your phone.

3. After this, select Language > select your Wi-Fi Network > enter Wi-Fi Network Password and follow the instructions to complete the setup process.

Once the setup process is completed, you are all setup and ready to make voice/video calls, send messages, watch YouTube and perform almost all the tasks that can be performed by a phone with SIM card.

2. Make Free Voice/Video Calls & Send Text Messages

There are popular ad widely used apps like WhatsApp, Google Voice, TextNow, Telegram and others, which can be used to send free text messages and make free voice and video calls.

Perhaps, the most popular among these is WhatsApp, which allows users to make free voice and video calls to anyone, located anywhere in the World.

3. Use iMessage Without Phone Number

Apple’s iMessage service allows you to send/receive an unlimited number of free iMessages to anyone that is using an Apple Device.

The good news is that Apple’s iMessage service can be activated using your Apple ID and it is not necessary to have a phone number to send and receive iMessages.

4. Use Google Chrome And Safari for Web Browsing

You can make use of the default Safari browser on iPhone and Google Chrome browser on Android phone for web browsing.

If Google Chrome browser is not installed on your mobile device, it can be downloaded from Google Play Store on Android phone and from the App Store on an iPhone.

5. Watch Videos & Movies

If you are like most users, it is likely that you want to use your smartphone to seek entertainment, gain knowledge and learn new skills.

These requirements can be easily fulfilled by YouTube, which comes pre-installed on Android phones and can be downloaded and installed from the App Store on an iPhone

In addition to YouTube, you can download Netflix, Amazon Prime, Spotify and other apps to fulfill your entertainment, information and knowledge requirements.

6. Project Media from Android Phone to TV

You can make use of Google’s inexpensive Chromecast device to project videos and movies from your mobile device to the large screen of your Home Television.

7. Use Google Maps Offline

Even if your phone is not connected to a cellular or mobile network, it can still provide you with turn-by-turn directions and voice navigation by using Google Maps in Offline Mode.

The only disadvantage of using Google Maps in offline mode is that you won’t be getting live traffic updates and location based alerts.

8. Use VOIP Apps to Call Landlines

You can make use of Google Voice and other VOIP apps that provide a virtual phone number, which can be used to make calls to landlines and mobile phones.

While the consumer version of Google Voice is only available for users living within United States, the Workplace version of Google Voice is available in Canada, United Kingdom and several other Countries.
