Smartphones and SIM Cards are like conjoined twins and it is difficult to imagine one without the other.

However, getting a SIM Card also means getting in to a Contract, Paying Monthly Fees, Taxes and other charges to use the Service Providers Network.

If for some reason you do not want to get into a Contract or spend money on a Cell Phone Plan, you can still use your Android Phone as a WiFi only device.

Even without an active SIM Card and Phone Number, your Phone can send and receive Messages, Browse Internet, use Google Maps, Play Videos, Play Movies and perform other tasks using Free WiFi Network.

1. Activate Android Phone Without SIM Card

The first hurdle that you need to cross, in order to use Android Phone without an active Cellular Plan is to activate your device without using a SIM Card.

When you start setting up a New or Factory Reset Android Phone, it will prompt you to Insert SIM Card, but on most Android Phones you can skip “Insert SIM Card” prompt and complete the Setup Process.

Simply, press the Power Button to start your Phone > Dismiss “Insert SIM Card” prompt > select Language > select your WiFi Network > enter WiFi Network Password and follow the instructions to complete the setup process.

2. Use VOIP Apps Text Messages, Voice & Video Calls

Without a SIM Card, your Android Phone won’t have a Phone Number associated with it, which can be used by other users to contact or Call you.

However, there are many popular VOIP Apps like WhatsApp, Google Voice, TextNow, Telegram and others which can be used to send text messages and make voice and video calls.

Perhaps, the most popular among these is WhatsApp, which allows its users to make free Voice and Video Calls to anyone, located anywhere in the World.

Although, WhatsApp verifies its users using a Phone Number, it is still possible to use Use WhatsApp Without Phone Number or SIM Card.

3. Use Chrome Browser for Web Browsing

It is most likely that your Android Phone already has the Chrome Browser installed on it. If not, you can download and Install Chrome App from Google Play Store on your Android device.

4. Project Movies & Videos from Android Phone to TV

If you are like most users, it is likely that you want to use your smartphone to seek entertainment, learn new skills and gain knowledge.

These requirements can be easily fulfilled by YouTube, which comes pre-installed on most Android Phones.

In addition to YouTube, you can download Netflix, Amazon Prime and others from Google Play Store to fulfill your entertainment requirements.

If you have a Chromecast device, you can project Movies and Videos from Android Phone on to the larger screen of your Home Television.

5. Use Google Maps Offline

Even if your Android Phone is not connected to a cellular network, you can still get turn-by-turn voice navigation by using Google Maps in Offline Mode.

Since, your Android Phone is not connected to internet, you will not get live traffic updates and location based alerts, but you will still get accurate turn-by-turn directions.

6. Use Skype to Call Landlines

Microsoft’s Skype App can be used to get your own Skype Phone Number and call both Mobile Phones and Landlines within North America for a small Monthly Fee.
